SIMCITY 2000 SUBWAY PROFESSIONAL
“Many people come to us and say, ‘You should do the professional version,'” he continued. Will Wright didn’t believe that was even possible. 5 But that didn’t stop companies from believing Maxis could design realistic simulations. “I think if we tried to make it realistic, we would be doing something that we wouldn’t want to do,” Wright said in an interview in 1999. SimCity was always meant to be a caricature of the way a city works, not a realistic model of the way a city works.” 4 But we’ve kind of caricatured our systems. “I realized early on, because of chaos theory and a lot of other things,” said designer Will Wright, “that it’s kind of hopeless to approach simulations like that, as predictive endeavors. The game was inspired by research on real-world urban planning concepts, 2,3 and although it was created as a way for players to experiment with running a city, the goal was to be fun rather than accurate. SimCity wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. What is your goal? Maximum possible population? For that you need 1 fewer Launch Arco than the number that will launch (a terribly boring process), followed by enough of the second largest arco to fill the map.įor a seaport to be functional (have piers), the water has to be at least 3 deep.Thumbnail of the SimRefinery title screen. It's easier to build a subway-only city than a rail only city.īus stations suppress traffic on nearby roads.ģx3 buildings only show up at 90* road corners (or diagonal roads). Rail is pretty useless in Sc2k because it requires the 2x2 stations to work. Water pumps draw more water when surrounded by water. The last four ordinances (City Beautification, etc) increase RCI demand. Rail and highway connections to neighbouring towns increase industrial demand. Road connections increase commercial demand. None of the institutional things need road access, actually. You can put all of them in one corner if you want to min-max. Schools, hospitals, and colleges don't need to be near anything.

I can't find anything on the internet that will help me. What is the formula for working out property value? What are the factors that affect it? Is this an effective strategy to minimize traffic and pollution? Is this a waste of money? So far I have built cities where neighbourhoods are isolated from each other by road but connected by rail. Do they have to connect? Can I have parts of the city isolated from each other? Now I'm playing SC2K and I can make a profitable city but I could do so much better if I just knew how things worked.
SIMCITY 2000 SUBWAY HOW TO
When I play Pharaoh I know how to make use of roadblocks for maximum efficiency of services via walker routes. When I play Caeser 3, I know to abuse gatehouses (a trick I read off the internet). Now I'm pretty good at it, so it seems.īut one thing that really frustrates me is the lack of information on the game mechanics of it. It's not new to me, I remember playing it when I was 8 years old.
